Woman receiving laser tattoo removal on her arm from a professional technician in a clinic.

tattoo removal

Tattoo removal is our area of specialised expertise and we are proud to have the only PicoWay laser available in the lower South Island.

We can treat all colours and types of tattoos, professional, amateur, cosmetic, radiation and trauma.

The PicoWay laser is often called the Rolls Royce of lasers. we refer to ours as the Delorean because it takes you back to the future . . . faster!

We say this because the PicoWay has the fastest picosecond pulse and the highest peak power of any tattoo removal laser in the world.

This means two important things, a greater shattering of pigment and a safer treatment with less collateral damage. Translating to better results in fewer treatments.

what to expect

We carefully select a handpiece, matching the pigment colour to the correct wavelength and accurately trace your tattoo/pigmentation, beginning with a couple test spots to assess your skins response and help prepare for your treatment.

The handpiece delivers energy with a highly precise, high power laser in extremely short pulses to target ink particles with great impact. These pulses shatter the pigment into minuscule particles that are easily removed by your body's immune system.

The surface of your skin will be unharmed with all the action happening under the skin. The smaller the particle the easier the body can flush it out. This occurs over multiple treatments spaced 8-10 weeks apart.

how it feels

The first thing you will see during treatment is a temporary response in the skin that we call frosting where your tattoo appears white and raised. This resolves quickly but may be a little swollen. While the pigment has been shattered your body hasn’t had an opportunity to move it yet so you will still be able to see your tattoo. Depending on your tattoo, area of the body, density etc, you may see some bruising at this point.

While for some the feeling is uncomfortable (often described as like a flicking rubber band), it’s much faster than getting the tattoo and most find it very manageable.

We will continue to cool the area with the Zimmer and apply post laser gel. Lollipops are also on hand!

after treatment

The aftercare will differ slightly depending on your tattoo and lifestyle factors and this will be discussed with you both before your treatment and at the completion to ensure you are set up for the best results. You will be required to keep the area clean and avoid heat in the area for 24 - 48 hours. Some people will find the area sensitive for a day or two, others not at all.

Most people will achieve full removal of a professional tattoo in 6-10 treatments. Brows and amateur and often less. We can help narrow down these guides at your consultation appointment.

Rest assured we are on call for you if you need reassurance or advice post treatment.
